Your "us" versus "them" bias.....

Newminimalists live between "us" and "them".

Many individuals have an overwhelming "need" to belong. Once he or she chooses a group, mob, or collective to support then the other choices they might have made become are all lumped together as a collective "them" who must be opposed.

An individual can only remain an independent thinker if he or she refuses to join either "us" or "them". In this instance the "us" and "them" construct is not attached to any particular ideology or theology. Instead what I am eluding to here is the process of belonging to a group, collective, or bounded community ensures that there is an entity labelled "them" which is useful because it binds each member to a particular version of "one think" which is shared by all who come together to form "us".

Newminimalists live in the DMZ between "us" and "them".[see photo]. This is an easy place to live once an "individual's needs" are elevated above the "collective wants" or either "us" or "them".
