Newminimalists curate their own workplaces.
The workplace of the future will be a purposeful creation of the mind not the physical space that one inhabits to comply with the terms of engagement by an employer [see photo].
YOU must now create, design, and curate the workplace of the future. Use your iPhone to form a cooperative. Use an empty space inside the now defunct local mall as a meeting place for all the talent you need to fulfil your workplace dream. Use the first principles of economic externalities to bargain air right that can accommodate a smoke stack next to a Chinese laundry that needs clear air to dry sheets. Use the camaraderie gleaned from a "coalition of talents" [a cooperative] working with a common purpose. Use the simple notion that value is created when a consumer develops a craving for a product or service not when a boss gives the processes you deploy the big tick of approval.
People destroy their workplaces when they become competitive [often spurred on by HR and management], become envious of others who have more talent, become mistrustful of colleagues, and become sucked into mind-numbing bouts of group think [diversity and inclusion]. The individual spirit of cooperation is squashed and replaced by the rigours of collective collaboration. When this happens the magic of work is lost. The purpose of work is subsumed by the new focus on measures for productivity, cost reductions, lame value add processes, and insane uniformity. Within this setting the meaning of work is defined by status, income, power, and competition.
The future of the workplace will be determined by you and your colleagues. If you trust each other, cooperate with each other, lay aside your differences [ideologies and theologies], and join together in a communion of purposeful work then the future of the workplace is bright.
