This is my heartfelt "shoutout" to all the workers who supported me in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. I must acknowledge just how much I relied upon a huge range of workers who get up and go to work each and everyday.
I wrote a riff some time ago which was a precursor to this one. In that missive I marvelled at the notion that "the world loves me". That feeling became real for me as I sat waiting for my number to appear on an electronic screen which would eventually flash and direct me to a cubical where a service provider sat waiting. Like many people, I guess, I was frustrated by the fact that I did not know how long I would have to wait. In response to that feeling I began to observe, and dissect, the movement of the workers who were not sat at a counter. "She is talking to her colleague instead of attending to me" said the voice inside my head. But all that did was raise my internal anger levels.
Unexpectedly I shared a smile with the guard who had tried to help a women to open the locked door that would lead her to the toilet amenities. It was a clearly a struggle for him; however, he was patient and he got her through that particular hurdle. I caught his eye and as I did he faced me and shrugged. In that moment I was overwhelmed by the feeling that these folks are here to help me. Sure I have to wait; but, that is because they are helping others with their issues and if I think about it for a moment that is also helping me. This system is organised to help us and so I know that "the world loves me".
Specially I must give a "shoutout" to the staff at my local Lidl Supermarket [Albertov, Prague] because they are part of the system that proves to me that "the world loves me".
Richard.
