Who are you?

I am women hear me roar...

The anthem for Second Wave Feminist included the words "I am women hear me roar". In this era of Fourth Wave Feminism females are roaring about many issues but not about being a woman. Men are even more uncertain about who they are as they scamper here, there, and everywhere in search of a purpose for their maleness. In a world of billions of bored people it seems logical that men and women do not know who they are. And so it makes perfect sense that they rush to join the Cliques, Cults, and Collectives which help to define them in terms of who they are not.

Staring back at you from the mirror each morning [see photo] is what exactly? What does she stand for as she looks into the mirror first thing in the morning? What meaning does she find to explain her life? What is her purpose today, tomorrow, and next month? What does her inner-voice tell her about the way she is experiencing her life? What does she plan to do when she needs to change her life? What can she possibly do to curb her reliance on other people's wants? What does she plan to do about her errant habits? What does she plan to do about the complete mismatch between what she needs and what she says she believes?

I am a minimalist. What does that mean? Well, let me see, I am pretty sure it does not mean what you think it means. Minimalism has a special meaning for me. It means I place my needs way above, and beyond, the wants of other people. It means that if I genuinely need to become rich and famous then I will do whatever it takes to achieve that success. It means that if I genuinely need to become a beach bum then I will do whatever it takes to achieve that success. Indeed I can imagine myself becoming a beach bum while being rich and famous. I can imagine being happy either as a beach bum or as a rich and famous person. Those two situations provide the context not the content for a life. Therefore my particular sense of minimalism has nothing to do with what others may or may not think about the term minimalism My sense of minimalism is defined by an individual's needs, habits, and beliefs.

I know who I am. I am a minimalist. Who are you?
