Newminimalists know themselves very very well.
One of the great lessons most of us can takeaway from this period of "social distancing", self-isolation, masks, etc is that humans will always cluster. However. The government took away your ability, some might say one's right, to meet and greet with those who form your social cluster. So. What did most people do?
They went onto the Internet and formed the same social clusters [group think, habits, values, ideology, theology, etc] in their virtual world as they maintained in the physical world. These "social clusters" are small, medium, or large yet all of them have an enormous potential reach around the globe. In all these different cases these clusters soon become virtual ghettoes where original ideas, difference, innovation, etc go to die.
In simple terms, we might say that we have created [over the past 3 months] the same ghettos online as they had in the physical world. This means that the Internet is a new platform for the same old same old. And to the degree that the 2020 Internet is still open, free, and expansive the people who inhabit these new virtual ghettoes are spending huge amounts of their emotional capital on trying to regulate whatever looks different to what defines and sustains their virtual ghettoes.
If you live online inside one of these virtual ghettoes and you are happy with your life then it is working for you. That is fine with me. But in such a case all you need to know that you are a captive of your virtual ghetto and so understand how much that decision has limited your potential and your life. Meanwhile those who are "out there" living their life beyond the reach of these virtual ghettoes [see photo] they know that this existence can be lonely but that it can also be exhilarating and fulfilling.
