TikTok is a platform that is fun and full of nonsense. I love the energy and randomness of TikTok. I do not love the culture that comes in behind this Internet phenomenon. TikTok is a fun-and-funky platform but it is backed by the stormtroopers of the Empire [see photo].
TikTok works in China because it is perfectly attuned to the culture of the Empire. The Empire is a strange mix of freedom for the individual and tyranny for the individual. The freedom is in the streets because the stormtroopers do not enforce the laws of the Empire. The laws of tyranny are on the books but those particular statues are not enforced. In the public square of the Empire the squalor is tangible. However. The new public square of the Empire is the Internet and in that forum we have yet to identify a tangible Luke Skywalker.
The Empire exerts its power through the marketplace [without stormtroopers] as it bans the NBA, Apple, Google, etc from exercising free speech. The Empire unilaterally bans freedom of thought and speech for any company that seeks to do, or currently does, business with its consumers. As history records [again and again] we import culture change and this is once more the case as the West is overwhelmed by the dictates of a new Empire [China]. Many people welcome this invasion however some do not.
This is the Star Wars of our times. It is not a kinetic war. It is a full-blown culture war. It is a war between ideologies. It is a war sustained by viral memes. It is a war with an opaque frontline. It is a war that young people are now waging. It is global war the like of which we have never seen. It is a war that impacts every human being on planet Earth.
TikTok is a time bomb set by China. But this bomb is not set to explode Western culture. This bomb is set to implode Western culture. The frontline of today's battle is freedom of expression. The frontline of future battles will likely be independent thought. The prize for the winner of these meme-based battles is the minds of all who have access to the Internet.
