Skillful and effective political leaders are as rare as hen's teeth. Why? Politics is the 'art of securing rusted-on followers'.
Good politics is the antithesis of good public policy.
Politicians are delegates [of unions, business, money, ideology, group think, etc] not representatives [of electors, ideals, democracy, transparency, etc].
Politicians propagate slogans, mantras, memes, brain viruses, and invasive mind-fog.
Politics gives voice to 'causes' that can never be resolved.
Politics is the art of deceit, deception, delusion, and illusion.
Politics is never conducive to compromise, consensual decision-making, or bi-partisan solutions to issues.
There are more rules [or laws] to politics: however, you might get the gist of the game from those 'magnificent seven'.
I am a 'recovering politician'. I know, and I accept, that there is no cure for my addiction. I am still not on top of a lifelong itch to solve political issues; however, this addiction has less impact on me with each passing day......
