Individual lives are patterned around thoughts, habits, and beliefs. And that is why I settled on those three elements as the basis for what I refer to as minimal-you. However there are inferred patterns which you, and I, do not control in this era of invasive technologies [hand-held computer devices]. What do the comptrollers of these devices infer about you and me from our displayed patterns of thoughts, habits, and beliefs.
Edward Snowden has some insightful thoughts about the use of data collection on individuals [adults and children] to infer a pattern of life. I have often thought about the fact that street cameras track our movements around the city because this is an intrusion into my private life. I have not thought much about the intrusion that my handheld device allows the keepers [governments, corporates, service providers, etc] of the data it constantly emits. From these data a machine infers that there is distinct and personal pattern of life for me that it can recognise, exploit, and profit from over time.
