The vertical integration of global supply chains over the past 50 years is about to change. The new supply chain is communal, local, national, and regional not global [see photo]. The new supply chain has risen, risen, and risen since the end of the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020/21. This new supply chain is driven by information systems that are designed to serve communities rather than stock warehouses, stores, and shelves. In simple terms the old supply chain was a "batch system" that created stocks for consumers to access at various locations [McDonalds]. The new supply chain a "real-time system" full of data which enables consumers to have products and services delivered directly to them [Uber, Bolt, etc].
The new supply chain is an automated system that links product and service delivery to instant payment mechanisms with built-in AI customer solutions. Fewer people are used in this new supply chain as humans are replaced by AI, algorithms, and extensive data systems. We have entered a whole new economic realm as supply is automated while demand is set free from previous restrictions and limits. But the real change is that economic activity is returning to local jurisdictions. The world supply chains will once again be layered and life will once again be diverse and communal.
