Today, 15th February 2021, the narrative is a message about equity [diversity and inclusion], climate change [solar, wind, and sea based power will save the Earth], censored language [he is not he and she is not she], global power [elimination of nation state status in search for the great good], and so on. If you are content with the narrative then what I say on this website is not for you.
My minimal-you narrative asserts that individual need is paramount. The extent of your individual needs can be those of a billionaire or those of humble monk - both are equally valid. Accommodating both those perspectives is possible for minimalists because the eternal focus is non individual needs not collective wants.
Minimal-you emerges through through the unique discovery of a narrative that best represents your needs. The process is simple. Eliminate excessive collective wants so you can focus on your authentic needs. Automate your needs based habits. Recreate your fundamental beliefs in line with needs.
My notion of a minimalist pertains to someone who can be either frugal or a spendthrift. I know that this may not precise fit with the common narrative for minimalism. However the discord here does serve to illustrate my core point that the collective version of life is embedded deeply inside every individual's head.
I refer to the ubiquitous narrative as a "mind-tape" that runs both day and night. Over the past seven years I have worked diligently to erase that ubiquitous "mind-tape" in part, or in whole, and today it is no longer the voice I hear in my head. Instead I hear the voice of an individual who is free to think about the issues of life that are most important to him or her without the distraction of the raging noise from the mob. The mob is unified by a narrative serves the wants of the collective not the needs of the individual.
Richard.
