You must fit the job

Can't find your goldilocks job

If you can't find. your "goldilocks job" [not too hot, too cold, but just right] the problem is you. Friends will think they are helpful when they tell you "it is the market right now". Others, including some recruiters, will say there is "steep competition out there". And some echo your thoughts when they say "you are too good for that job". While some of those general points might be true; but, the real reason is that you just do not fit the job [see photo].

You may not have the skillset you would need to excel in this new job. You might not display the people skills, with words or around the workplace, you will need to excel. You may not be willing to actually do this new job and therefore you could never expect to excel at it. The truth is if you knew how to excel at this new job then you would be hired in a flash; and, you could negotiate your own terms and conditions of employment.

So where does one start to prepare to excel in a new job. Well it is obvious, I guess. You start by making sure, and certain, that you excel in the job you have today. What? Yeah... you must excel at your current post before you even think about moving on. If you excel at the job you have right now then you will be offered "the goldilocks job" at the most unexpected time and probably in the most unexpected place.

By the way do not waste your time [hours you could be perfecting your work] with all this networking nonsense. Sure you go out with friends and people in the workplace to socialise but that is called being human. This notion of networking your way into "the goldilocks job" is the stuff of movies, facebook, ticktok, and other social media but it is not real life. It is a total waste of time. Alternatively... You can use that time to improve your ability to do the job you have today. In other words you must learn to excel at what it is that you do.
