The truth about time
We all have a strained relationship with time. It goes too fast or too slow: it stands still, and yet, we can never get enough of it.
"How much time do I have left, Doctor?" This question is being asked somewhere. But. Has a Doctor ever been asked "how much happiness do I have left?"
Searching for the meaning of life. Living a life in the pursuit of happiness. Mustering enough self-discipline to live a purpose-driven life. These seem worthy aspirations and goals. However. Imagine your Doctor says you have a month left because you have stomach cancer.
What will you do with that time? How will you spend it? Knowing that your time-on-the-clock is about up: can this sudden insight into 'time' change you?
The reason I became a minimalist is to exist beyond the normal dimensions of time. I strive to live in a timeless state-of-mind. This is what some Eastern meditation practitioners refer to as the holy state-of-bliss. Here your breathing tells your mind that you are alive not the time showing on your smartwatch. In this space your mind has no wants; indeed, you only need to listen to the pulse of each breath.
We chase time throughout our lives. Yet we only ever catch it with our very last breath.
