Human experience and AI automation.

The future of work

I am surprised that I am writing about this subject matter again. Today there seems to be more being written about "the future of work" than I can stand. I can't stand much of it because it is complete and utter nonsense. There I have said it and I feel much better now.

The truth is that I have said what I am about to say many times before dating back to the last Century but I need to stress my point, again, here with a little more clarity and boldness. So here goes.

In the near future [next five years] work will be done by highly experienced humans or by designed for purpose automation. Got it! No... I don't think you have a clue what I am talking about here.

To get my point you must stop thinking about work as processes. Well that is, unless or until, you are an AI bots. Why? Because it is the AI bots who are about to perform all the task we have traditionally allocated to human labour. Yeah... now you are catching on... The future workplace will be almost devoid of humans. And most of the AI bots that are doing the actual work are opaque to you and me.

The human labour that is engaged in this new workplace format will be older, have more experience than most, and have specific skills that AI bots do not possess. Thus the new workplace will be a marriage between those assets [human or AI bots] that are needed to provide a product or a service.

Where are you in this picture? Most of you are not in this picture at all. You are no longer a viable workplace asset and so you will live off the benevolent gifts of your society. Being drugged out all day might be the way to go! Otherwise you will have to build your own workplace and fund it by using human labour and AI bots in new and innovative ways.

Richard.
