To become a minimalist you must discover the simplest version of you [your unique self]. For example, I have been on a journey to discover my unique version of me for more than 10 years [see photo]. Perhaps this is the reason that I can help you; if, and only if, you are brave enough to live as a minimalist. To live as a minimalist means to focus in on your needs rather than being defined by your wants.
The complex nature of life becomes clear if, and when, we refuse to acknowledge who we are and what we need. If we know who we are and what need then life much simpler.
First you must discover if you live your life as a strategist or tactician. Do you see the big picture and thus paint your canvas with broad strokes? If so you are most likely living as a strategist. Do you see how to build other peoples' big picture plans step-by-step-by-step? If so then you are most likely a doer who uses known tactics to achieve your goals. Both the strategist and the tactician can become a minimalist; however, each will face very different challenges.
I am clearly a strategic thinker. I am an introvert and I cherish my alone time [simply being alone]. I am not a joiner although in my youth I was often sucked into causes on behalf of others [alongside my radical friends I participated in a lot of demonstrations - ha, ha, ha]. In essence, I have always lived primarily inside my head. Which means I know little about [nor care a lot about] the "doing/tactical" side of the equation. Lucky for me there are lots of competent doers around when I need them. My point here is that I have less insights into those of you who are mostly tactical. HOWEVER... I do have acute tactical attributes which I bring to the table as required to fulfill my needs.
In many respects the fact that I live "inside my head" makes me the dumbest person on our planet; however my accumulated experience [not yet wisdom] has led me to live a wonderful life. Finally... I may be dumb but the smartest thing I ever did was to become a minimalist.
Richard.
