The jellyfish economy.....

There is a lot of "nonsense" being broadcast through social media today about the "attention economy".

I get that it seems real and catches the attention of folks. I get that it makes money for GaryVee as he uniquely brands this notion at speaking gigs around the globe. I get the fact also that this notion is a great marketing tool for all the "look at me" public speakers who populate the professional circuit. But none of it is real. Indeed most of it is entertainment.

Take another look at this photo of jellyfish gliding effortlessly along together. Does it capture your attention? Does this photo present you with an image of something organic, real, and tangible.

OK! Where is the comparable image of the mystical "attention" that is driving our global economy"? Whose attention is being sought anyway? Is it your precious attention or is it that of the public speaker ranting and raving at you from his or her global stage?

Of course the notion of a jellyfish economy is pure nonsense too. However. It does present us with an image of activity, motion, and group cohesion. And it does give me a subtle way to nudge you to think a new about our global economy.

Perhaps, our new global economy is something akin to a sea full of jellyfish. If so then the clear and present  focus is groups not on individuals!
