In 2022 we might come to rely upon an unexpected saviour from our current compliance tyranny [see photo]. The saviour is the fact that The Internet is moving back to serve people not things. We have passed through the era of "the internet of things" which has led us to the current compliance tyranny. The Internet has enabled a automata system of compliance. For the past two decades we have put "things" ahead of "people" and so it is not surprising that we have come to live inside a dystopian state of compliance. Comply or be excluded. Comply by showing your digital passport to normal "people-based" activities. Comply with the dictates of the bureaucrats or be locked out. Comply with.......
The Internet is about to shift our focus from "things" to "people". This will signal a return to a more organic version of The Internet as we experienced it in the early 1990s. How will this occur? We are about to augment The Internet with 5G technologies with a clear focus on local not global reach. So what? Well we could be about to see a social revolution [spurred on by 5G local communication networks] as The Internet focuses on "services" not "things". Direct service delivery via 5G will disintermediate much of the current healthcare delivery system. It will enhance learning through online delivery of knowing, knowhow, and knowledge. It will bring the focus of human life on this planet back to the local [as opposed to the global] community. Innovation and progress will be made in services that people need rather than in producing things that some folks may desire. And so on and so on...
