The indelible curse of sameness.

This collection of inert pebbles is stunningly beautiful [see photo]. Yet. Each has the potential - in the hand of the right kid - to skip across a still body of water and create ripples. When this kid sees these pebbles he, or she, has an unholy need to pitch a few of them to defiantly make a difference to the surrounds. Why? Because the world around that kid is stagnant. It is sterile. It is boring. It is never changing. It is steeped in the curse of sameness. It drives this kid to distraction. The other kids - their parents and guardians - are dazzled by the pace of change in technology. Thus they claim that change is all around us. They insist that the world is being swamped by change. However. If this was true we would be surrounded by deviants, rogues, and misfits. We would be taunted incessantly by the genius of those who live on our block. But we are not. We are inert pebbles. We are waiting around for a kid with a burning need to hurl us across our lake of sameness. That kid will transform us into change agents. As we fly through the air and then skip merrily across the water we will defy the curse of sameness. We will disrupt the status quo and for a moment, or two, we will create a few ripples. Richard
