We live in a world of abundance but that is not enough for most of us because we harbour envious thoughts about those who seemingly have more than us. They have more things. They have more status. They have more power to influence others. They have more happiness. All of this may be true; but, it is just as likely not true. It is most likely just an illusion [or delusion] that each of person generates inside himself, herself, or them because a lot of us are incapable of being honest with ourselves.
All of us, to some degree or other, fear "black swan" events. Those events that we do not see coming. Those events that we seemingly have no control over. Those events that create mass hysteria within our cohorts and therefore elevate our natural fear of the unknown and the unknowable. HOWEVER... If you know a minimalist you know that not everyone is afraid of all the hype and hysteria that is pushed unrelentingly by the most envious groups on our planet. These folks hype Climate Change, diversity-equity-inclusion, gender reassignment, modern monetary theory, hate for difference, love of conformity, false leaders, etc. They are all on the envy train. And coincidentally, perhaps, most are in the "politics of envy" business.
The truth is the "black swan" lies within each of us as we promote and replicate envy rather than peaceful coexistence [see photo].
Richard.
