The greatest thing about curating ideas is that it is an individual activity [see photo]. And the most exciting element in the process is that brain-think-communication is messy not orderly.
The do for curating ideas has at least two foundation principles.
First, the Quakers rely upon a simple habit that has them take the "best" from any situation or event. Quakers believe that even in a toxic culture there are good moments that one can savour. All those moments can be placed into the blender [a human brain] and churned until an idea is released to the world as the juice for a better life. Quakers represent the holy spirit of idea curation and they tend to shine brightest at the very beginning of the process.
Second, in a popular 1998 movie "Working Girl" - starring Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford - we are shown how to curate an idea. The central character, Tess McGill, is a secretary who reads a diverse range of popular magazines and press. From these sources she takes snippets of information that she eventually curates into an amazing corporate idea. While her boss is off work she presents her novel idea to a finance-industry shark. He struggles with this corporate merger proposal however he concludes that the idea is so crazy that it makes perfect sense. Of course the sub-plot of the movie is that her boss [McGill is a secretary not a mover and shaker] steals this idea and presents it to her client as her own. Everyone who sees this movie knows how that works. However. When challenged by her client her boss can not explain exactly how she came up with such a bizarre idea.
The don't for curating ideas has at least two foundation principles.
First, the climate of a dominate ideology creates a strong bulwark against the process of curating ideas. Ideology forms a steel cocoon that prevents nascent ideas from going viral. Ideology is the "group think" that forms the individual confirmation bias that places shutters over the eyes of would be rational people. Ideology is not a left, or right, or centre issue it is a brain clot for most people and the sad truth is that most do not know this blockage exists.
Second, a great idea is nothing unless, or until, it has the context that enables it to survive and thrive. A great idea is fragile at birth because it is never ever a mainstream entity. Edward De Bono [Lateral Thinking] suggests that new ideas exist beyond the reach of the mainstream. Anyone who attempts to curate new ideas while swimming is the mainstream will ultimately be frustrated. He posits that "you can not dig a new hole while digging the same hole deeper." The idea is the content but what makes it work for its curator[s] is the context that enables it to go viral. If a person is to successfully curate a receptive context for a new idea then he or she must build an incubator.

I have set-up a free access incubator for you and your friends where you can play with your most diverse, demanding, and sticky ideas. While inside this incubator with a select few friends [I recommend no more than eight] you can create an ideology, confirmation bias, and 'group think' free space. As I say this facility is free for you and your friends. Use it as a start-up space before you go onto create your own physical or online venue. To access this space go to minimal-you.com and click on the button below the heading "the hangout" and then you can get to work curating ideas in ways that make them a social or commercial reality. And. If you have any questions about setting-up your De Bono type incubator feel free to contact me via email or direct messaging [see "ask Richard"].
