The 2020 gift of workplace freedom....

Newminimalism promotes *originality *discipline *creativity *loyalty *less fluff

Workplace freedom is a post-2020 gift to you.

The lid is about to be blown-off the big red box of controls that restrict all workers' freedoms in the contemporary workplace [see photo]. Somewhere in your workplace there is a big red box that needs to have its lid taken off.... ha, ha, ha.

Individual and group freedoms are currently being suppressed by many factors from the design of the physical space to the mind-controls that are applied to all workflows. The 2020 freedoms that flow to each workplace will be different, if not unique, so it is very difficult to predict what exactly you will see at your place. However there are some themes that you can look for as a gauge to whether anyone has found your red box and if someone is attempting to pry open its lid.

These overarching themes include the following:

* recruitment and firing processes - more time-limited contractors and fewer full time staff.

* revenue models that are transparent not opaque - focus on "use value" of labour.

* marketing shifts focus from building brand equity to monitoring customer satisfaction.

* emergence of in-house legal capability to deal with new issues of customer engagement. * increasing power to customer-facing staff - pay rises for these folks should be substantial.

* public sector new hires put on project-based contracts not on life-long tenure.

* workplace cultures that facilitate "on demand" delivery of products and services.

* workplaces designs that benefit from the use of AI bots in all labour-intensive processes.

But please be aware that "the red box" in your workplace is hidden in plain sight.
