Teams have heaps of fun....


Diversity and inclusion can be achieved organically.

Start-ups are full of teams. These are sometimes called Tiger Teams. They form scums [Agile method]. They are self-regulating. They are organic. And they are diverse and inclusive.


It is fun to go work 10-16 hours a day with a team of colleagues who have become friends. Team rules are strict on behaviours because these set the constraints that enable individuals to shine in a group setting. Stories of teams having fun are common these days but these tales tend to focus on the parties not the work. And yet it is the work that is the real source of exhilaration, satisfaction, and fun.


Teams have fun because they focus on the work they are hired to do. It is the work that staff would pay to go do however they are being paid way above average remuneration because they are unconventional, quirky, confident, and courageous talents. It is hard to describe just how disciplined, focused, competent, and fun-loving these team members can be.


The reason that start-up teams have so much fun is that the jokes, frivolity, and teasing forms a strong "sentience boundary" around such entities. This sentience boundary is so strong that it serves to protect team members from the environs around them. This is a key reason that many of these folks sleep under their desk. It also goes a long way towards explaining why they hang-out together outside of work. It also help to explain why those who once had strong ties to families, sexual partners, and college friends will struggle to maintain those relationships. Finally, it helps to explain why divorce, relationship fractures, and breakups are commonplace among members of work-defined teams.


Team members find a purpose for life that they share with their colleagues but not with their familial or former social ties. Thus teams curate a new sense of the meaning of life.
