Minimalists have habits that are based on individual needs.
Habits are the process that drives your life into the future. What you do provides the context for what you think and, in turn, what you believe in.
If the process you rely on to drive your habits leans towards the collective [habits that are shaped by groups not individuals]; then, you will be a minimalists who lives with others who are also minimalists or inclined to become minimalists. The danger of this approach towards minimalism for you is that you might find yourself trapped inside a cult.
Your habits tell you what the meaning of life is for you. Your habits tell you what the purpose of life is for you. Your habits give you the perfect insight into your current and future beliefs.
Minimalism as practiced by individuals is revealed by their personal habits. They get fit alone. They eat a range of foods that are not prescribed for them by a diet which has become a meme for you as a servant of "the greater good". And so on.
Minimalists who live inside a cult are fine with me as are those who choose not to do that. However. It is important that each person is fully aware of the impact of their minimalist habits and the beliefs that will inevitably attached to them.
Richard.
