Structure is all around us; and yet, for many of us it is missing from our lives.
Groups bring a unifying structure to our lives. We join because we want to belong to something that is bigger than us. We join because we lack meaning in our life. We join because it makes us feel less isolated and alone. We join because we never look at the costs of membership.
Groups steal freedom from us. Groups makes us risk averse. Groups ties us to causes that we may not truly support. Groups inculcate a narrative for life that others share. Group makes us dumber than we were before joining. Groups give us a reason for our lapses in judgement. Groups align our feelings to political movements.
Structure gives an individual the backbone he or she needs to stand and walk tall [see photo]. Structure provides the infrastructure needed to live a discipline life. Structure provides the building blocks for an independent life. Structure provides the foundation for change and future development. Structure provides the continuity needed for us to reach our full potential. Structure provide the launching pad for us to risk takers.
Richard.
