Newminimalism is a strategy for individuals.
What is strategy? This was the most common question raised by undergrad and postgrad students when I tried to teach policy sciences. It turns out that any long discussion about the nature of strategy leads one to a vortex of confusion and angst. One is likely to conclude the discussion with a long list of suggestions as to what strategy is not [see photo].
As we live through the partisan times of covid, lockdowns, and general social disruption it is imperative that we each have a clear understanding of what strategy is and what it is not.
"Strategy is a structure imprinted on the future". There are two basic versions of a strategic structure. One is rigid and the other is flexible. Example number one. If you live your life in the shadow of an ideology, theology, or consensual thought patterns then your strategic structure is highly predictable. It is difficult to change. And it is defined by others not by you. Example number two. If you live your life as a willing participant in trust-based cooperatives then your strategic structure is highly flexible and your future possibilities are endless.
The future as structured by a free thinking individual is very different to one curated by a collective. Today many people live in a restricted present that is the indirect outcome of a collective strategy which is not a good fit for any of them as individuals.
As an alternative I invented the concept of Newminimalism which is a state of mind that is designed to create the best strategic outcomes possible for any and all unique individuals.
