I never met Sabine Schmitz however like many thousands of people around the world I was a fan. Sabine died on the 18th March 2021 from cancer when she was fifty one years young - I am in mourning at her passing. The truth is the world is a far lesser place without Sabine and the joy she brought to an individual life.
Sabine was a racing car driver with skills which truly excelled on her home track - see this short tribute to her and her talents at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq959s6S-sY
But of course... Sabine was more than just a racing car driver. She was a loyal partner to Klaus, she was a farmer who loved her John Deer tractor, she was part of a family who run a hotel near her favourite racetrack, and she was an inspiration for many young women who saw her achieve so much in a world dominated by men. It is impossible to fully encompass, or even to summarily report on, the remarkable life of Sabine here; however, I will always see Sabine as a minimalist.
Sabine lived her life as a racer, farmer, partner, and family member based on her needs as an individual who was a strong minded and an independent thinker in a world of sameness and group think. Sabine lived a life that was full of joy and expansive notions about what could be achieved by an individual in a world of collectives.
RIP Sabine Schmitz.
Richard.
