Our world needs more "renegade thinkers". These thinkers live and work on the "other landscape". The "other landscape" is full of opportunities because it is barren. It is a barren landscape because it is full of opportunities. It is a natural landscape for renegade thinkers.
Why do we need these renegade thinkers?
We need them because the world is full-to-the-brim of "group think" or "one think". Renegades live and thrive on "the other landscape" [see photo]: a landscape that exists outside the boundaries of "group think".
The 1860s ushered in an industrial revolution wherein machines were used to transform production, transport, services, etc. In the process the notion of a human as "machine like" became the default setting for those who thought deeply about the meaning of life. These thinkers devised a model of a society formed by "collaborative collectives" with tight social ties and robust sentience boundaries. Within this construct the needs of the individual are opaque while the wants of the collective are translucent.
Renegades are robust individuals. They are content to live in a world with loose social ties and expansive sentience boundaries. They place their trust in individuals not groups. In many instances they harbour a deep mistrust of groups and collectives. Thus these robust individuals tend to construct cooperatives much like the "craft guilds" that thrived before the industrial world emerged and came to dominate our modern landscape.
Are you a renegade thinker?
