We live inside a propaganda hive [see photo]. The result is a world divided into two generic tribes "us" and "them". Each tribe uses propaganda to hurt, to harm, or to disarm "them". Within each tribe a particular version of propaganda passes as the truth even though the content of it is extremely fluid. For example we all have been told: don't wear face masks, wear face masks, wear two or three face masks, wear face masks only in crowded situations, wear face masks when jogging alone in a park, and so on and so on.
When it comes to the task of assessing, or evaluating, "collective wants" [here think of "the greater good"] there is no underlying truth because this particular house-of-cards is built on the shifting sands of rank propaganda. Collective wants are marketed to "us" [or "them"] via multiple versions of "processed information". Each version of these data is used to lure one into a Clique, tribe, or union which will ultimately define that person. Who you become is strongly reinforced by a "confirmation bias" which overwhelms the individual's ability to think, act, or believe in ways that contradicts the narrative he or she constantly consumes.
I have invented a schema [minimal-you] which enables me to survive in the DMZ between "us" and "them". Let me try to explain this somewhat weird concept. As a carefree youth I travelled to Laos and one day I went to the marketplace with my friend. At the edge of all the makeshift stalls lay a barren stretch of land. Beyond that stretch was the jungle and inside that covert lay the Pathet Lao [The People's Liberation Army]. That barren stretch of land was the circuit breaker between peace and war. I use that analogy [inadequate as it may be] to describe how I strive to live just beyond the reach of either an "us" or "them" hive.
In a practical sense, I focus on "individual needs" [minimal-you] and leave the propagandist to zoom-in on their "collective wants" [in the service of the greater good].
Richard.
My mind as a minimalist is developed on a unique sense of what I call minimal-you which, in turn, is based on individual needs not collective wants. For instruction on how to establish your sense of you: go to minimal-you.com and hit the "become a minimalist" button in the banner heading. This will take you to a payment scheme for a 10 day programme that will teach you how to design, enforce, and live with mind filters: these help you to be the best person you can be.
