Year 2020 has exposed a universal problem for organisations. Put simply the issue is incompetence. And the reasons for this issue are clear. Global organisations are both rigid and robust. And this comes because they rely upon state-of-the-art technologies to deliver a reliable productivity outcome. However the people global organisation model results in a mono-culture that has a high tolerance for incompetence.
Year 2021 demands that global organisations slash costs. The greatest cost is incompetence and waste. Removing these costs will be difficult but necessary. The need is to rid the organisation of incompetence and hire new talent at the same time. The new talent will either create the 2021 organisational culture required or the whole place will implode. Brave managers will come back from this Coronavirus pandemic and shutdown with a ruthless plan to shed people in unprecedented numbers. Sell large HQ offices. Move legacy IT departments, HR, marketing, and strategic planning units to the suburbs before closing them down. In the new HQ managers will insist on quality fittings and reject the open plan configuration. Also they will let the new talent build their own workplace configurations in the office and at home.
