Newminimalists start life with the sentence "once upon a time".
Once upon a time I decided to live my life based on my needs not on other peoples' wants.
I decided to do three things:
reduce collective wants
automate habits to reflect my needs
create beliefs that align with my needs.
My "once upon a time" was 5 years ago but it had its roots in my thoughts back in 2008. I began thinking about minimalism. Rid myself of clutter. And then free my life of the heavy weights of other peoples' expectations, aspirations, and beliefs. I had lived with so many of those constraints because at an early age I entered politics. I thought I could help others. I found that mission was a never ending grind of failure, misadventure, and exhilarating successes. But. The common denominator of that life was the burden of trying to please a collective whose goals kept moving. Achieve one goal and they take a vote and add ten more goals. In 2008 I finally realised that there is an infinite number of collective goals; and furthermore, that most of them do not meet the individuals needs of me or those of the collective who are my familial.
Life is good today. However the world has changed since New Years of 2019. So I have to adjust myself to better meet the challenges of 2020 and beyond.
I will begin that review with the sentence..... "once upon a time".
