We live in a world that is defined by uncertainty, ambiguity, and messiness [see photo]. These times are characterised by massive social change and this fact has led to an implosion of cultures at work and in every aspect of life for most individuals. But the real impact on society is the trend to value the group above and beyond the individual.
We see a constant trend around the globe as governments at all levels [local, state, national, and international] seek to dictate the way individuals live as they continue to impose health and other mandates. In the main this has led to a imposition of "sameness" here, there, and everywhere.
The curse of "sameness" is obvious today. The results of this curse is a deterioration of standards across all aspects of one's life. If you look at the little things around you that you may have always taken for granted are not in good shape. Maintenance of public spaces and infrastructure are a prime example of the drop off in social standards. Perhaps this happens because public spending has switched from infrastructure to social welfare. The truth is that public spending on social issues has no limit. The other side of that truth is history records that massive government spending on social programs leads to inflation, corruption, and social discombobulation. For those who are struggling to understand what is happening to their lives perhaps a history lesson about what happened in the 1970's. There were shortages of skilled labour, inexpensive food, supplies of petrol, etc.
Most folks survived the 1970's by "muddling through". Perhaps it is time to adopt the strategy and tactic of "muddling through" once again.
Richard.
