Minimalism versus collectivism....

Minimalism can save you from drowning in a pool of collective wants....

The world today is a sea of collective wants. Climate change programs, diversity and inclusion at work, social justice as defined by the UN Assembly in NY, power devolution to tribal entities, commerce based on ideology rather than market value, and centralised power over all of us. The reality today is that collectivism has won the battle over conservatism. Will this prove a good or a bad thing in 100 years?

A new collective order for the world seems imminent at present because it appears to be a unified block from China to the aforementioned UN Assembly. Power will be concentrated in the hands of global bureaucracies [private and public], Central Banks, religious zealots, academic institutions, and [of course] a complicit media. There are very few outliers in this new landscape and those that do emerge are "tarred and feathered" daily in perhaps the greatest demonstration of us versus them hate seen for over 50 years. The power of the modern Elite is stronger than in past decades and all that concentrated power is used to smash "them" [anyone who opposes the prevailing 'group think']. In the wake of this huge tidal wave of disruption, destruction, and obstruction the remnants of democracy, civility, legality, and creativity are scant.

Over the next 10 years however this tidal wave will lose its momentum and internecine disputes will erupt. The existing coalitions of power, wealth, and status will implode as the practice of collectivism implodes. Ideologies will be pitted against each other. Plans for world domination by the collectives of the UN, Central Banks, EU, China, etc will be cast aside as tribal interests begin to win victory after victory. New power blocks will form with some very strange bedfellows [perhaps the USA and Russia will join forces against China and the EU]. Movements within some traditional power blocks will occur [Scotland and Ireland separate from England while Mexico, Canada and America coalesce] as the world seeks to regain a sense of equilibrium. But. In truth who knows what will happen.

The one thing that is clear however is that those who choose minimalism over collectivism will thrive during these turbulent times. Minimalism offers each of us a lifebuoy [see photo]. We can save ourselves from drowning in, or being swept away by, a huge tidal wave of collectivism. Minimalism is not conservatism nor collectivism it is a free standing state of mind based on individual needs, habits, and beliefs.

Minimalism is an approach to life that shares much with the following quote from Phil Corio age 105 years. "Never take up smoking and just keep breathing". The first part of that quote relates to the harmful effects of bowing to peer pressure as one strives to belong to a Clique, cult, ideology, or collective. The second part of the quote relates to the basic needs of each individual. Minimalism is "a state of mind" wherein the needs of an individual are very often placed above the wants of others.
