The mask is worn to protect you from the scrutiny of others [see photo]. You put on your mask rarely, sometimes, or each and every day. Those who put on their mask each and every day are living in a fantasy world or in a distorted version of reality. Those who put on their masks sometimes may lack the character needed to become a fully rounded individual. Those who put on their masks rarely are probably individuals with integrity, courage, fortitude, and presence in the world.
Wearing a fantasy mask is an interesting experiment for any individual especially if everyone at the party with you has a mask on. The masks will all be different but the behaviours of the participants will be the same. The masks help individuals to become more debauched, uncouth, and unhinged while at a party. The masks act as a bulwark between "who the individual is at the event" and "who he or she claims to have been" the next morning.
Wearing a mask to hide who you are is commonplace today. There is the mask of the virtuous. The mask of team player. The mask of the friend. The mask of the lover. The mask of the caregiver. The mask of the famous. The mask of the successful. The mask of the leader. The mask of the progressive. The mask of the educator. The mask of the benefactor. The mask of the mentor. The mask of truth seeker. The mask of the rational thinker. The mask of the ....[you fill in the blank].
Mask wearing can be lots of fun and can boost to one's self-esteem; but, wearing a mask which is not a good fit can make one extremely weary. Mask wearing can be a positive when performed by fully-fledged individuals who agree to be held accountable for their thoughts, actions, and beliefs while hiding their identity.
