Newminimalists strive to become mavericks.
My work life has always been a challenge for me because I am a maverick [see photo].
I am actually a crazy dude just like Joe Rogan, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Tesla, and many many more. No maverick is equivalent to any other and so that is also true for me. Becoming a maverick has its own rewards once you chose to stand apart from, and to be different to, those who form the collective around. The truth is I achieved so much more than I could have if I had simply risen to the top of an organisation with the help of the mob.
Mavericks are natural leaders perhaps because none of them cherish the role of leading others. In the end they are forced to lead because they adamantly refuse to succumb to one think, and group think, as they take strident steps to avoid being ruled by the mob.
The greatest challenge for the maverick is to curate the discipline needed to live as the outsider. It takes incredible levels of discipline to be under scrutiny every minute of everyday by those around you. These critics are just like kids. They can spot a fake gesture from a mile away. However, if you are not a fake then the heat is turned up to the maximum on you [indeed your work life becomes as hot as hell once you are tagged as the devil]. Your co-workers will create many fanciful stories about you. They will create jokes about you [some are funny and these will make you laugh]. Indeed they will do everything within their power to ensure that you remain an outcast. All this time, however, the undeniable truth is they need you to join them to validate their vapid and empty lives.
Joe Rogan is a maverick. First and foremost he is a comedian and thus his talent is to observe quirks about you and those you hang with. Very recently, good old Joe moved from LA in California to Austin in Texas. As part of that move he signed a substantial long-term contract with Spotify that would enable him to use their platform to continue presenting his podcast content without a blink from management. But. Before Joe, and his side kick, could settle into their Bright Red Cave at Spotify: Joe got hit with objections from the woke staff who seem to be in control of that organisation. Of course these staff members want editorial power and control over all Joe's content. Blah, blah, blah and so it goes.
I must admit I did not see this act of stupidity coming from the Spotify crew; but, it should have been as obvious as the nose on my face that this is what would become the greatest challenge for maverick Joe in Austin.
Richard.
