Learn to be frugal: Lesson #1

Newminimalists are learning to be frugal

Rejoice is being YOU.

Newminimalism is a state of mind which I invented around 6 years ago. The essence of this disciplined mindset is that you "rejoice in being YOU".

Know who you are and what you need so that you can find a worthwhile purpose for your life.

I was walking down the street on my way to a supermarket around 8am today. Of course I had my obligatory mask dangling around my neck in preparation for when I was actually inside the shop. But. Otherwise I felt free of all restrictions in an era dominated by the fear of covid-19. The sun was shinning, on my side of the street, and I felt "special". No superior but "special"[see photo].

The first lesson for those who seek to become frugal is to understand who you are and what it is that makes you feel "special".

I found that stripping away all the shibboleths of the past [parents, workplace culture, friends' version of group think, etc.] liberated me. To do that took hard work as I examined what I needed rather than what they needed. Now I have found a life blessed with fewer needs and so I can address the needs of others with much more robust energy and commitment.

Today I can see that the "Emperor has no clothes on" because he is an incompetent fool [one who listens to the advice of hubris idiots] not because he is frugal. The boy who exposes the fact that the Emperor is strutting about in the nude is the one who is frugal. The kid has removed the collective wisdom of the mob from his mind in favour of simple truths which is all he needs to remain sane and relevant to the real world around him.

Are you sane and relevant to the real world around you?

Richard
