Newminimalists have the courage needed to lead.
Leadership takes many forms. It comes from individuals of all ages, sex, ideology, theology, and purpose. But it can only ever come from those with courage. The universal truth today, 2nd June 2020, is that cowards can not lead [see photo].
During my life I have seen leaders in action. At the time you are not aware of the courage it takes to act because all you can see is the need for it. But with 20/20 hindsight you are often struck by the fact that your leaders took action while others dithered and then made excuses for their failure to act. When the crisis subsides and the fatigue of being on edge fades then the power of rational thinking brings the clarity that courageous leaders show all the time.
The leaders I saw who made a real difference did not always make the best decisions but they did act and that was a magnitude better than remaining idle. Most took immediate action based on the best information they had at the time. However. Perhaps leadership is best explained by the cowards who fail to lead. Cowards pause, wait, and instil fear in those who should act. Cowards refuse to act. Cowards defer to mob rule. Cowards never lead.
At times I spied exceptional leadership coming from those who would never refer to themselves as leadership material. Meanwhile. I saw people in key positions of power fail to act. Instead these cowards led talkfests that failed to create a deliberate and purposeful plan for action. Cowards always seek a consensus before they act. They duck, weave, and dither as they recount stories about what has just happened not what must happen next. These people are incompetent, they have no constructive ideas, and they fail us in the moment we need them most. They retreat from the world as they shelter in a cocoon of lies and denial.
