Leadership in a collective world...

Minimalists have developed the discipline required to become a leader.

Leaders of collectives are great facilitators.

The notion of leadership in our collective world is different to what you might read about [see photo] in contemporary academic literature, in Fast Company, or in posts on LinkedIn.

The essence of a leader today is found inside those who can bring order and discipline to the mob. Discipline is needed if one is to establish a consistent set of standards within a collaborative system.

Today such collective systems are driven by an ideology not by a purpose. Thus they are more beholding to a cause than to a revenue model. And yet many collective leaders are able to blend those two competing elements of business seamlessly into a unified whole.

Talent is easily displayed, or shed, by any business today because the collective leader is a passive or active dictator. The modern dictator sets the mind, habit, and belief set limits for the tribes they rule. It is no surprising therefore when groups of contemporary workers "take a knee" when confronted by the bullies who control their careers, livelihood, or social status.

Of course this is an entropic system of management. It is a closed system which can only seek to survive in the short-term [ie one human life cycle of about 70 years]. And so our individual talent today is being forsaken because the mob gleans some perverse sense of pride in a collective system that is run by a global Elite.

Ultimately.... Our 2020 ideals, values, and social norms support the suppression of the individual in favour of a collective system run by an Elite few.

Richard.
