We inhabit a world where a price is attached to almost everything and yet few of us know the value of a smile [see photo].
As I write this little missive I have a smile on my face. The expression of my joy is clear on my face but the origins of it are deep down in my stomach. I know the value of my smile comes from the fact that my mind is clear and my stomach is not rumbling. There is no anguish in my mind or my body at this moment. This is a moment that captures true the value of being a minimalist.
The value of being a minimalist is incalculable for me; yet clearly is negligible for you and that the reason that you have not yet found your version of minimal-you.
Perhaps value recognition is a function of wisdom. Jung warned us about the falseness of "unearned wisdom" and today it seems to me that unearned value is all around us. The evidence that my assertion might be true is the prevalence of "sameness". Surely real value lies just beyond the reach of those who settle for a life that is constrained by, defined by, and bounded by unrelenting "sameness".
Minimalism is the opposite of sameness because its value is determined by individuals not collectives. For example minimalists are rarely, if ever, woke.
Richard.
