I am becoming increasingly complacent about the future [see photo]. For me those who rant and rave about Climate Change, gender homogeneity, BLM, social justice, hate crimes, etc have become less and less audible. However those who strive to retain free speech, family values, less government-corporate-media power, rational discourse, etc echo my inner voice.
I am not complacent about the persistence of incompetence, authoritarian rule, the outbreak of WWIII, the hobbling of even one child's mind, the unfettered spread of ideology and theology, the cowardice of men in leadership positions, etc. The truth is that humans can be cruel, conscientiously lack compassion for others, display evil intent if placed under extreme pressure, harbour unlimited amounts of greed, and hate others as fervently as some pray.
The future is found along a wobbly path were all the best and worse aspects of humans meet to bargain for wealth, power, and status. The ebb-and-flow in the battle for wealth, power, and status records peaks of disruption and valleys of continuity. Future historians will likely record this year of 2021 as a period of disruption not too dissimilar to that of 1968. Surely the best among such storytellers will note that there were short-term winners and losers; and yet, for most humans on Earth the result was that "life goes on".
