Follow your passion is a fashionable meme today: indeed it has become a fad [see photo].
What does this mean exactly? I am not sure but I think it has to do with feelings, emotions, empathy, and self-confidence. I know that for any notion to become a fashion or a fad there must be a theme to it. Passion linked to a theme can drive people to strive for a common outcome. Some may state that their passion is for conservation of nature, wildlife, particular species, or even the whole Earth. In this instance their passion may set the stage for them to join Greenpeace, Save the Children, The Salvation Army, etc. Alternatively, it may encourage them to take a camera and record the devastation created by those who exploit whales, rain forrest habitats, exotic bird life, etc. In this way they form memes.
My passion is individualism. The meme I use to promote individualism is minimal-you. And, it turns out that, I am passionate about my own version of minimal-you because it has brought me to a place of silence in our noise infected world. It has led me to establish a state-of-mindfulness that is both expansive and private. It has led me to reject the fashions and fads of others who seek to gain my attention unless, or until, I need them to boost my individual sense of well being. It has led me to monitor the covid protocols, isolate myself from society, social distance myself from others when in the supermarket, etc but mainly to ignore them.
Earlier today, I was watching film shot in Germany in 1945 which showed the devastation of the bombing raids but also captured the spirit of the people. It showed American and Soviet soldiers taking photos of each other. It showed human chains, upon chains, of women passing buckets of water up steep inclines of piled-up debris. It showed a women on the third floor of a building doing some housework as if everything was normal outside the big hole in her brick wall. It showed a man smoking a pipe to the annoyance of the women around him as they stood in a crowd listening to a speech. It showed the fact that life goes on even in the most demanding of circumstances. It showed that fashions and fads are surely preserved for those who are well feed, sheltered, bathed, and cared for.
