When you live cloistered on a mountain top [see photo] it is easy to accept that you are part of a cult.
There are many variation on a theme offered up as the definition of a cult. This one by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is most applicable here: " great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work..."
The key words that indicate the presence of a 'cult' are collaboration and inclusion. Equally. One could substitute the words conformity and group-think. Mostly I think of people who are trapped inside a cult of collaboration, inclusion, empathy, etc. These are mental prisms wherein you are expected to care more for others than you do for yourself. In a sense you have become the servant of other people's thoughts. And so your 'self-talk' [the mind tapes that run 24/7 inside your head] belongs to 'them' not to 'you'.
I am so glad I do not travel to Silicon Valley USA anymore because there a 'cult' virus has morphed into a plague. Before this plague took hold, my most treasured place in the world was the campus of Stanford University. Just being there made me feel alive and full of energy.
Today the 'diversity of thought' that once made Stanford University such a 'beacon of hope' has been dimmed.
