Diversity and inclusion [you can not have one without the other] is "burning down" our institutions. First. Diversity is a system. It is a system that replaces merit-based evaluation of individuals with a system that assesses group identity as the basis for recruitment, promotion, leadership, and status within organisations. Second. Inclusion is a system that places "group identity" above "individual competence".
Can these two systems integrate into one cohesive driver for organisational change? I do not yet know the answer to my own question, sorry.
But I do know that HR is at the very core of this revolution. Unfortunately this has meant that HR has taken on the image, role, and practice of the "diversity and inclusion" police. This is a pity because it will bring HR down. HR is best known for helping individuals but this new role means it is pushing group-based change.
Diversity and inclusion is important because it shifts the focus in your workplace from equal opportunity to equal outcomes. From merit-based competence to empathy-based talent. From ...
Workplaces are changing. They are changing from the outside in [although HR is trying to lead change from the inside out].
What will rise from these ashes?
