Despair, hurt, emptiness, longing, and the like are all holes in your life that you can never be backfilled with moments of happiness, joy, success, and the like. And yet you began your life as a vessel of potential [see photo].
The despair felt by a parent who loses the potential of a child before, during, or after birth is tangible and ongoing. A father who never meets his child or has him or her plucked from his care is set on a course of life-long grief that can be resolved. A mother who never meets her child is thrown into a pit of agony for the remainder of her life. Neither a man nor a woman who is refused the chance to help a child develop his or her full potential as human being is visited by despair, hurt, emptiness, longing, and grief that can never be erased.
We live in a time of abundance and yet many of you reading this riff have deep-seated pain that never goes away. Some of you continue to seek answers through theology, through spiritual healing, though the headlong pursuit of the "meaning of life", through prescription or illegal drugs, through the process of joining a "collective" of victims, and other means.
To all of you who are suffering today all I can say is that "I feel my pain each and everyday" and there is no escape from it.
Richard
