Today the coronavirus is illuminating the future of work around the globe. It is apparent that in the wake of this coronavirus pandemic you can learn a lot about your current and future employment prospects. For example. If your current work has been temporarily shut-down, shifted to your home, or moved to some other workstation right now: then your job is far from secure. In fact this coronavirus has exposed the weaknesses in the global system of work. These weaknesses can be identified by noting which jobs have been shutdown. So we are all being told by the marketplace, in the face of the coronavirus, that you may need to find a new career trajectory.
The coronavirus has thrown shade on the future of work. For example. Wherever this virus causes discontinuities in employment there is a weakness that will not go away when this crisis is over. Any sign of instability in your employment in a coronavirus infected world should cause you to rethink your future career prospects. For instance, many live events around the world have been shutdown or shifted onto the Internet. Clearly the jobs attached to the provision of live event that include games, concerts, cruise ships, etc are now targets for disintermediation via the Internet. In the not too distant future we can expect that many contemporary jobs will be eliminated from the global economy. Some jobs will disappear because live events are being replicated on a screen on your phone, computer, or TV. Also, certain jobs will simply disappear because new content will be delivered to consumers without a live audience [this is already happening with video games tournaments].
