Competence is paramount today...

Competent you can survive and thrive the current crisis.

I have been going to have blood drawn from me [for the past two decades] every three months. I do not remember any time when the exercise was straight forward given that my veins are always well hidden [ha, ha, ha]. Many times I have become a pin cushion down my arms and around my hands. So it is with a little trepidation that I went to the clinic today here in Prague.

First up... I see a friendly face and greet him. He is able to extract blood from me as if I had normal veins. That reassures me because I know that he can step in and get the job done. So I sit in the chair and wait to see what this old female nurse would do. She looks for my vein in right arm. She speaks to my man in Czech [I can not speak their language] and he tells her not to look for alternative sites in my hand but to persist with my arm. She does that and it is painless and quick. As I see the blood streaming into the test tube containers I exclaim "brilliant!". I commend the nurse and she has a beaming smile because she knows she has done well.

Competent people are a godsend. If you become one of the most competent people in your workplace you are a gem and you will always have a well paying job. If you sink to the level of general incompetence that prevails around you then you will struggle to get promoted or to hold your current job.
