Collectives are expanding across the globe [see photo]. Group think comes with many taglines [socialism, fascism, totalitarianism, authoritarianism, etc.] but this only confuses our thinking about what is happening to our societies.
Collectivism thrives when individualism dies. The death of individualism today is enforced by cancel culture, "one think" about race, expansion of government reach, universal mandates on health, and so on. Which means the blanket of collectivism is spreading not in retreat. In turn this means you join the collective [get a health passport] or you remain an individual who is shunned and shamed by his or her society.
One shelter from the impact of collectivism comes to those who do not accept the premise that "wants think" is superior to "needs think". Wants think supports lock-downs, vaccines, masks, etc as the best response to Covid-19; and yet, the failure of this approach is now all too obvious. Could the world have adopted a different approach to fighting Covid-19 if individuals were trusted as much, or more, than collectives?
As an individual you must choose to become an integral part of the collective that runs your society [and thus your life] or choose to create a network of trusted individuals who can support you to think, to act, and to be different.
In 2022 the most pervasive battles will likely be between the collective and the individual.
Richard.
