Change happens fast or not at all

There are so many myths about change that it is no wonder that YOU [my readers] are confused. I have spent my whole life working as a "change agent" and on some occasions I, we, have achieved a long-lasting success. But. Most of my efforts did not produce much of anything at all.

Humans are geared to continuity. And continuity is geared to resist change unless, or until, the core system becomes trapped in a spiral of entropy and thus begins imploding. Any system that is "imploding" [think of a building coming down due to controlled explosions] eventually disappears.

Why do systems [organisations, cultures, religions, ideologies, etc] get trapped in entropy? Because such systems no longer embrace feedback from their supporting environs. In simple terms all such systems become closed off to the positive influences [and challenges] of change. Think of Apple Inc [first iteration] or Wang Computers or Myspace or Borders Group or Toys "R" Us and so on.

When systems are open to "instant feedback" from their supporting environs then the urge to change the current shape of continuity is both real and constant. Thus the impetus for change comes from the outside: meanwhile, most resistance to change comes from the inside.
