The people of China are great but the regime that runs their lives is tyrannical [see photo].
Nike has caved to the regime in China and its puppet the NBA has followed that lead. The NBA stars are currently playing in China but while they are "in country" they have all lost their freedom of speech just like the people they are there to entertain. However. When these athletes return home to the USA they will resume the business-as-usual practice of dumping on America. Why? Greed is the answer. Nike [$US 40 billion] runs the NBA [$US 8 billion] by pulling the strings behind the scenes. Selling sneakers, it seems, depends on having a showcase NBA that will never offend the regime that controls hundreds of millions of fans [sneaker consumers] in China.
Brands go to China to die. Everything about life in China is remarkable because the people are industrious, innovative, and determined to make money. But. The downside to doing business in China is a regime that controls the people who live there. Here is the rub. The China regime is both tyrannical and laissez-faire. It is tyrannical on language, patriotism, politics, citizenship, and culture. It is laissez-faire on economic growth, business innovation, street culture [spit wherever you like], and building regulations. The pity is that famous brands like Tiffany [Fifth Avenue NY] are going to die under the tyrannical rules of China. Why is this so? Because brands are caving to the regime who run China.
Business-as-usual is fuelled by greed. China's regime is fuelled by tyrannical power. These two meet in a world run by a consensual Western Elite [virtue-signalling collectives] that praises China and dumps on traditional sovereign nations.
The emerging world order is based on greed.
