I am a simple guy who often ponders complex issues. One of the more complex of these - at the moment - is the difference between the brain and the mind. For me... humans use the brain to access Google whereas they use the mind to access dreams.
I like to think of the human brain as a Dalek and the human mind as Dr Who*.
Daleks are tightly scripted entities with limited powers. These tin cans are best known for their evil screams of exterminate, exterminate, exterminate. These things are disruptive. These things are predictable. These things are mindless. In other words... these things are the fictional representation of human brains.
Dr Who is rational at times. He is whimsical. He is forgetful and he is imprecise. But he is also unpredictable, creative, imaginative, and playful. In other words... Dr Who is the fictional representation of human mindfulness.
I think about the battle between the brain and the mind a great deal these days, in part, due to the emergent powers of Artificial Intelligence. Clearly... the brain will be both positively, and adversely, impacted by the creation of AI bots. Already AI bots do much of what the brain did for humans last Century. However... the mind lies way, way, way beyond the reach of those pesky AI bots. If you don't believe me just ask Dr Who - ha, ha, ha...
