Bounded complexity....

Newminimalists thrive on unbounded simplicity.

Mandelbrot fractal set is bounded complexity

The modern workplace is a great example of "bounded complexity" [see photo]. And so we can not be too surprised when we move to the edge of our bounded system we may enter into a system of unbounded complexity.

At the edge of this workplace system there are workers who have more in common with those outside it than with those inside it. The common example of this phenomenon is a team of salesman who have more in common with their customers than their managers.

If you are forced to "work-at-home" during this coronavirus pandemic you will be forced to live on the edge of your bounded complexity. You are suddenly at the edge of the HR control system which creates the rules that keep you trapped in a particular version of "bounded complexity". As you loosen the grip that HR rules have over you then you will instinctively begin to explore the possibilities of your version of "unbounded complexity". Indeed. If you are "working-from-home" for 6 to 12 months then you will find it extremely difficult to return to the HR constraints imposed on you in your primary workplace because it is a version of "bounded complexity" which you will increasingly find unacceptable.

Working-at-home could become the key game changer because the emerging system of productivity remains beyond the control of the modern version of bounded complexity. At present workers live inside a centralised system that is controlled by HR professionals who makeup rules that are designed to create "bounded complexity". I tend to think of HR as the place where "sentience boundaries" are drawn in ways that tend to minimise the impact of complexity on groups [especially as the same system must work at the local and the global level of scale]. But. The individual working-at-home can escape this type of "group think" and thus expand their workplace experience to a state of "unbounded complexity".

Ahead. A key issue is that a new state of "unbounded complexity" can not survive unless, or until, he or she curates a decentralised network with "sentience boundaries" that can exist within, and beyond, any type of home-base workplace.

Newminimalists exist in their own version of "unbounded complexity". If you are interested in becoming a Newminimalist go to minimal-you.com and click on the banner heading "Become A Newminimalist".
